This summer, Troop 1 attended J. N. Webster for Summer Camp from July 11-July 16, 2010. We had a great time!
12 scouts and 5 Leaders were there. Besides Merit Badges, scouts played Dodge ball, Threw Tomahawks, had a water Balloon
Fight and played Water Polo. One Scout, Ryan, Completed the mile swim! We had a visit from a Blackhawk helicopter and hummer
brought in my the National Guard, thanks to the SM of another troop. We invited them to join us in our Troop Picture and are
quite possibly the only troop to include them! On Tuesday, we did Flag ceremony. We surprised all but Mr. Boyd when, instead
of the camp flag, we raised our troop flag over the parade field. It flew there all day in honor of our 100 years along side
the centennial flag! Staff had made a joke with Photoshop of Mr. Boyd's face on Superman's body. One of the Troops made a
life-sized version and ran it up the flagpole. Monday was Centennial Day, wear your retro uniform! Tuesday was Hero Breakfast,
dress as your favorite hero. Wednesday was OA day. A nice ceremony was held and ended with ice cream and deserts for those
attending. Thursday was Pirate Breakfast and Crazy hat day. On Friday, we went to the parade field for flags with a 40' flagpole.
IF you recall, last year we answered the CIT challenge of the tallest pole with a 42' pole upon which we flew our American flag
and a flag saying "CIT wishes they had a big 1" This year there was only one CIT in camp and they issued no challenges. This
year we raised the CIT flagpole lashed to the top of our pole. Our report to the staff went something like this:
Sir! Last year, Troop 1 met the CIT challenge for tallest flagpole in camp. Apparently, we scared off the rest of CIT
and for that we are sorry. We are here today to support the CIT and to offer our 100 years of experience to them. All present
and accounted for, SIR!
We also had a scout impersonate Moose, the Thunderbird Staff coordinator, and give a fake Thundertweet. Ryan wore a
hat with a series of unraveled hemp ropes to make long blonde hair to pull this off and it was well received. We'd like to thank
the Staff of J.N. Webster for working with us, allowing our crazy Troop 1 Antics and putting up with our constant shenanigans!
